The Environmental Finance Center (EFC) at UNC’s School of Government is dedicated to enhancing the ability of governments and other organizations to provide environmental programs and services in fair, effective, and financially sustainable ways.

In support of our mission, the EFC seeks to hire a temporary data analyst for upcoming statewide water and wastewater rates surveys. Our rates surveys provide valuable information and tools to managers of water and wastewater utilities and local governments to assist with financial and environmental decision-making. This position is expected to be part-time during the school year, and based on performance, full-time during the summer.

Duties include:

  • Reviewing water and wastewater utility rate sheets
  • Entering rate sheet data into a database
  • Conducting quality assessments to ensure accuracy
  • Compiling reports and tables
  • Collecting data by phone, email, or fax, as needed
  • Assisting with market development and outreach for dashboards

Role requirements:

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Excel. Prior Microsoft Access experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with professional phone and email etiquette
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and produce results
  • Not afraid to ask questions when needing guidance
  • Recommended: Major or degree in finance, engineering, statistics, science, mathematics, economics, environmental sciences, information science, etc.

The School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill works to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that helps public officials and citizens understand and improve state and local government. As the largest university-based local government training, advisory, and research organization in the United States, the School of Government offers up to 200 courses, webinars, and specialized conferences for more than 12,000 public officials each year. In addition, faculty members annually publish approximately 50 books, manuals, reports, articles, bulletins, and other print and online content related to state and local government. The School is also home to a nationally ranked graduate program in public administration and specialized centers focused on information technology and environmental finance.

The Environmental Finance Center at The University of North Carolina (EFC) seeks an Outreach Coordinator to increase the visibility and impact of its work. The EFC is dedicated to enhancing the ability of governments and other organizations to provide environmental programs and services in fair, effective and financially sustainable ways. The EFC is part of the University’s public service mission and works directly with environmental service providers across the country. We work primarily in the areas of drinking water and wastewater finance, stormwater, wetland, and water quality finance, and clean energy finance, and we deliver our services by holding education events for environmental service providers, providing direct technical assistance, building financial tools, and conducting applied research. The EFC is housed at the School of Government, which is the largest university-based local government training, advisory, and research organization in the United States.

The Outreach Coordinator will coordinate and carry out activities to increase the EFC’s visibility and impact. This will include, but not be limited to:

  • Creating and coordinating outreach activities for EFC projects, such as marketing to clients via email, creating web content, adapting project reports into blog posts, managing contacts, and producing content for social media.
  • Maintaining and improving the EFC website and blog, including the composition or selection of original written content (project descriptions, news updates, etc.), graphic design and digital photos.
  • Technical and copy editing of EFC reports and material.
  • Designing graphics in support of EFC reports, presentations, and general branding.
  • Producing stories that tell the impact of EFC projects; this will include written content as well as audio/visual components.
  • Preparing occasional press releases.
  • Measuring the effectiveness of different outreach approaches to determine the best way to reach our audiences.
  • Helping to design ways to measure and communicate the impact of the EFC’s work to our current and potential funders.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from a four-year college; or an equivalent combination of training and/or related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree in marketing, education, journalism and/or related environmental field; or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience.

Location: Preference will be given to applicants who can work from a satellite office in Atlanta, Georgia

 

The Environmental Finance Center (EFC) at UNC’s School of Government is dedicated to enhancing the ability of governments and other organizations to provide environmental programs and services in fair, effective, and financially sustainable ways.

In support of our mission, the EFC seeks to hire a temporary hourly employee for an upcoming Finance Forum to be hosted in the southeastern part of the country. The temporary employee may be a current UNC student, or an hourly employee affiliated with another university in the southeast. Preference will be given to applicants who are able to work from an off-site location in the Atlanta metropolitan area of Georgia. The employee will assist with the planning and implementation of the Finance Forum. This Forum will focus on equipping participants for financing resilient and sustainable water infrastructure.

Duties include:

  • Assist in creating marketing materials to advertise the event
  • Assist with managing event registration, including communicating with registrants, answering questions, and handling pre and post event communications
  • Gather and analyze data to be presented at the Forum
  • Attend meetings related to financing of water quality projects, as part of the Georgia Rates Survey project, and the Georgia Funders Forum
  • Assist with other environmental finance projects, as needed

Role requirements:

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite. Excel experience a plus.
